Episcopal, Jupiter latest Shark lacrosse victims

The Ponte Vera Sharks boys’ lacrosse team kept their unbeaten streak alive with an easy 15-2 win over Episcopal on Wednesday evening at the Sharks’ Field and another over Jupiter, 14-8, Friday evening.

CD James started the scoring spree for Ponte Vedra with a goal three minutes in. Seconds later Matt Keeler added another. Clay Welch then scored three consecutive times for Ponte Vedra before the first quarter ended. The visitors answered one of those goals to make the score 4-1 at the break.

Matt Keeler started the second quarter with three goals of his own plus one by Jack Burke to put the Sharks up 9-1. Jack Woeste, Cord Bishop and Devin Hoffman put the ball in the net for Ponte Vedra before the first half ended with the Sharks up 12-1.

Ponte Vedra substituted freely in the second half but still was able to pad their lead. Bishop added his second goal then Jack Dowd found the range on two shots — the first of which came on a defensive miscue that left the goal unattended.

Ponte Vedra met Jupiter on Friday evening and racked up a 14-8 win. The game was touch and go for three quarters with neither team able to open up a big lead. The final quarter started with the game knotted at 8-8. The Sharks then scored six unanswered goals in the final frame for the win. Keeler led the Sharks in scoring with 4 goals. Welch had three while Andrew O’Dare, Reid Smith and Ben Buchanan added two each and James scored once.
