A special event is planned for the Feast of St. James commemorating the Camino de Las Américas and the Alliance of Cathedrals at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 25. The event begins with a procession with a specially commissioned statue of St. James at the Castillo de San Marcos, 1 S. Castillo Drive, followed by a Mass celebrated by Bishop Erik Pohlmeier at the Cathedral Basilica, 38 Cathedral Place in St. Augustine.

The celebration is open to all and will take place rain or shine. Attendees are encouraged to bring water to stay hydrated in the summer heat for the procession.

Last year, a proclamation was signed, marking entry into the Alliance of Cathedrals. This alliance is committed to fostering faith, research, knowledge exchange and cooperation in areas such as theology, sociology, heritage conservation, cultural and religious tourism promotion and the organization of joint events and activities.

The Cathedral Basilica, a founding alliance member, officially became the anchor for the new Camino de las Américas network of pilgrimage routes in the Americas, offering another way for people to experience the transformative power of pilgrimages.
