Florida Chamber Music Project (FCMP) will bring new music to a new venue in an expanded six concert series for its ninth season.

The opening event is 3 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Beaches Museum Chapel at the Beaches Museum, 525 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach.

“We are excited to bring music to our friends at our new venue,” said Susan Pardue, FCMP artistic director. “There will be new music combined with classical favorites. Plus, we will be hosting two guest artists, Thom Moore and Hyunsoon Whang.”

Sunday, Sept. 12

“Corner in Manhattan” by Michael Torke

String Quartet in A Major, Opus 41 by Robert Schumann

The Torke piece features the sounds of Manhattan at different corners at different times of day. The Schumann quartet is considered a staple of string quartet literature.

Nov. 7

Quartet for Oboe and Strings by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

String Trio in B-flat Major by Franz Schubert

“Phantasy Quartet” by Benjamin Britten

“Gabriel’s Oboe” by Ennio Morricone

Guest artist and Grammy-winning recording producer oboist Thom Moore will join FCMP for several pieces, including “Gabriel’s Oboe,” which was the theme from the 1986 film “The Mission.” Moore was a fellow student with Susan Pardue at North Carolina School of the Arts.

January 16

“Estampes” by Claude Debussy

Piano Quartet No. 1, in c minor by Gabriel Faure

Pianist Hyunsoon Whang, an FCMP favorite, will be featured.

March 20

“Southern Harmony” by Jennifer Higdon

“Punctum for String Quartet” by Caroline Shaw

“Five Folk Songs in Counterpoint” by Florence Price

“At the Purchaser’s Option” by Rhiannon Giddens

What better way to celebrate Women’s History Month with the works of four female composers. The music of these diverse women will be very recognizable to the audience, even if it is the first time they have heard these pieces.

May 8

“Strum: Music for Strings” by Jessie Montgomery

String Quartet in B-flat Major, K.589 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

“Three Rags for String Quartet” by William Bolcom

New genius composer Jessie Montgomery’s music will be paired with classical genius Mozart for an interesting perspective.

June 5

String Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 12 by Felix Mendelssohn

String Quartet in F Major by Maurice Ravel

These two pieces were composed by Ravel and Mendelssohn when they were young men. Experience the joy of their world view when they were starting out.

Beaches Museum Chapel is wheelchair accessible and has free parking along Pablo Avenue near 4th Street north of Beach Boulevard. All concerts begin at 3 p.m. and guests are required to wear masks.

The Florida Chamber Music Project was founded nine years ago by violist Susan Pardue. Joining her are violinists Patrice Evans, Siyu Zhang and Ann Hertler and cellist Laurie Casseday. All are members of the Jacksonville Symphony.
