Florida Chamber Music Project celebrates Beethoven birthday

The Florida Chamber Music Project will be celebrating the 250th birthday of Beethoven and the 100th anniversary of women receiving the vote in the United States with a concert at 3 p.m. on Nov. 22 at the Ponte Vedra Lodge and Club.

FCMP will be playing Caroline Shaw’s “Blueprint,” the first piece from a female composer played by the group. Shaw is a New York-based violinist and vocalist who won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2013.

To celebrate Beethoven, FCMP will be playing “Haydn’s String Quartet in G Major,” “Opus 76, No. 1” and Beethoven’s String Quartet “Opus 18, No. 6.” Caroline Shaw’s “Blueprint” was inspired by both of these pieces.

“We can all use a little celebration this year,” said Susan Pardue, artistic director of FCMP. “What better way to bring a little joy into this year than to celebrate Beethoven as well as women’s right to vote? We had planned to play these pieces in March but the concert had to be cancelled because of COVID restrictions. We’re so excited that we have found a way to bring this music to the public.”

Tickets are available online at Eventbrite at www.eventbrite.com/e/haydn-shaw-and-beethoven-tickets-123376214579. Cost is $25. Concert attendees will receive free parking at the Ponte Veda Lodge and Club. Guests should pull into valet parking where they will receive a parking pass for the lot across the street.

Masks are required at all times and seating will be arranged to be physically distant.

Florida Chamber Music Project was founded eight years ago. Violist Susan Pardue serves as the artistic director. Joining her are violinists Patrice Evans, Anna Genest and Ann Hertler and cellist Laurie Casseday. All are members of the Jacksonville Symphony.
