Florida Water Warriors plans Oyster Roast On The River

In Florida, we’re surrounded by water — but it’s not always something we have an opportunity to enjoy or learn about.

For Jessica Jadick, ever since she was a kid she’s been captivated by the ocean, particularly dolphins and other marine wildlife. She knew when she grew up, she wanted to spend her days on the water protecting the animals she loved most. Now, after studying marine biology, she’s making that dream possible for others.

Jadick is the creator and owner of Florida Water Tours, a scenic boat touring company based in St. Augustine, where a portion of every ticket sale goes directly into her non-profit, Florida Water Warriors. As the Executive Director of the 501(c)(3), her mission is to provide equitable marine science education to underserved youth in the Northeast Florida coastal community.

“I had such a vivid dream as a kid, and I know how hard it is to make it a reality,” Jadick said. “I want to bring these special marine experiences to kids who may not otherwise have the chance.”

Whether it’s fostering a dream of working on the water or providing the wondrous experience of being a scientist for the day, it's exactly what Jadick and her crew do: provide opportunities for youth to engage with environmental science, encourage green behaviors through conservation and distill a love for protecting planet Earth.

“We learn, we explore, and we grow together,” Jadick said. “We watch wildlife, and even collect and test water samples, which then turn into real data used by our research team to profile our waterways.”

This first-hand experience out on the water has the potential to create the next generation of marine scientists and environmentalists.

On Saturday, Sept. 14, the public is invited to Oyster Roast on the River: A Family-Friendly Fall Fundraiser, supporting Florida Water Warriors.

It will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Genung's Fish Camp, 291 Cubbedge Road, St. Augustine.

Enjoy freshly-roasted oysters by Capt. Adam Morley, a delicious grazing table courtesy of Floating Food Co. (another of Jadick’s businesses), local raffle items and more. Drinks will be available for purchase.

This family-friendly event will enable Florida Water Warriors to provide eco-education to all. Tickets are $45 and kids under 12 are free. To buy tickets, go to www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/f78f2f41-6b51-46d7-9282-a90e69588b79.
