Girl Scouts conduct recruitment campaign for new members

The Girl Scouts of Gateway Council (GSGC) is launching its fall recruitment campaign for new members.

The council currently serves more than 6,000 girls across 35 counties, and there’s always room for more girls to join. The organization is emphasizing reasons to join Girl Scouts during its 110th anniversary year:

  • Girl Scouts prepares girls for the future, empowering them through the organization's four pillars: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), lifeskills, outdoors and entrepreneurship.
  • Girl Scouts promotes a sense of leadership, compassion, courage and confidence in girls in kindergarten through grade 12 through many programs, including the ever-popular Girl Scout Cookie Season, coming in January 2023.
  • Girls work together as troops and individually to earn badges throughout the year by completing various challenges, and can also earn special awards, including the Girl Scout Gold, Silver and Bronze awards –– the organization’s highest honors.

“At GSGC, the girl experience is of utmost importance,” said Mary Charles, interim CEO, Girl Scouts of Gateway Council. “We celebrate what it means to be a girl and encourage girls to find their place in the world through avenues they may never have considered. We look forward to welcoming new girls to our council this fall and all year long.”

Recruitment efforts align with the return to school, encouraging girls to find out just who they are and what they want to be. Through programs like Sweets & Treats, an initiative underway now in which girls sell candy, nuts and other goods, girls learn entrepreneurship skills and build upon other pillars they’ve been exposed to throughout their tenure.

In addition, the council is looking for adult volunteers. This group makes up more than 4,000 members of the organization at present and helps lead the girls as troop leaders, outing chaperones and positive role models.

Girls can get involved for $25 for a full-year membership, which runs from Oct. 1, 2022, through Sept. 30, 2023.
