A huge U.S. flag flies over Palm Valley Road on Wednesday morning, supported by a pair of fire engines from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. Many motorists passing beneath beeped their horns, perhaps thinking the flag was in recognition of Independence Day two days ago. Actually, it marked the route to be taken by first responders in a funeral procession for former Duval County Emergency Preparedness Director Steven Woodard, who died last week. Services were held nearby at Crosswater Community Church.
