Thanks to initiatives such as the National School Lunch Program, students, regardless of their parents’ income, are ensured a low-cost or free lunch each day that they attend.
But what about when they’re not at school?
On May 1, the Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation teamed up with Target to help ensure that students in the community don’t go hungry during summer vacation. With the help of executive employees at the Target on Marsh Landing Parkway, the team managed to pack 577 bags of food to be delivered to underprivileged students. Of that number, 200 bags went to John Love Elementary, and 377 went to Love Grove Elementary, both located in Duval County.
Each bag was filled with peanut butter, mac and cheese, oatmeal, cereal, ramen noodles, peach cups, granola bars, cracker snacks and a summer treat of ice pops. Target also provided each school with four new planters and 20 packets of seeds for summer gardening. In addition, the MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation received oatmeal, ramen noodles, granola bars and ice pops for their pantry.
"We at the Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation are thrilled to be able to provide over 575 elementary students with food over the summer and we are grateful to the local Target executives who packed the bags,” Foundation co-founder Tabitha Furyk said. “We hope to continue our partnership with Target to help the kids in our communities and ensure a successful future."
