K9s For Warriors is responding to meet the needs of veterans and service dogs in training by keeping its doors open and joining #GivingTuesdayNow.

#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity taking place on May 5 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.

Despite the pandemic and many businesses closing their doors, K9s For Warriors is keeping its doors and hearts open to continue to support veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury and/or Military Sexual Trauma. K9s For Warriors has more than 600 warrior-K9 graduate teams that still need K9s’ services more than ever in times of mandatory isolation during COVID-19.

“While isolating is the best practice for our country’s health at the moment, isolation is something Service Dogs are meant to help veterans with PTSD overcome,” K9s For Warriors CEO Rory Diamond said. “Isolation and social distancing are factors that can easily send at-risk veterans on a downward spiral towards worsened PTSD symptoms,”, “It is important for us to continue to provide our services to veterans to fight veteran suicide and to help mitigate symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury and Military Sexual Trauma. With the support of donors who respond to the call of #GivingTuesdayNow, we can show America’s military heroes that their country is there for them like they were there for us.”

During this time of uncertainty, the GivingTuesday mission aims to bring people together in the spirit of generosity.

“As a global community, we can mourn this moment of extreme crisis while also finding the opportunity to support one another,” said Asha Curran, CEO of GivingTuesday. “We each have the power to make an impact with acts of generosity, no matter how small, and to ensure the sustainability of organizations and services that are crucial to the care and support of our communities,”, “Even as many face financial uncertainty, generosity is not about size. We all have something to give, and every act of human consideration and kindness matters on #GivingTuesdayNow.”
