The Womens Food Alliance is hosting the 3rd Annual “Kids in the Kitchen Cooking Contest” for children 8 to 12 years of age with culinary prizes that they can share with their family if they come up with a tasty and unique family recipe. Children love to be in the kitchen – and making a favorite family dessert recipe is a great way to launch their creativity by cooking something yummy for their family.
When children are in the kitchen, they surprisingly learn to express their individuality and curiosity about food, plus they learn a little more about math, science, reading and love. Cooking something for the family grows independence while possibly inspiring youngsters to eat healthier, too.
Email dessert recipe and story about “Why I Like to Cook for My Family” to:
Recipe must include: child’s name, address, phone, email of parent or guardian, recipe name and a brief story about the favorite family recipe and “Why I like to cook for my family.”
Entrants must be 8-12 years old.
Deadline for entries is July 1.
The Womens Food Alliance will select the Top 12 finalists by judging on: originality and use of ingredients; deliciousness; dessert presentation; dessert name; and, story “Why I like to cook for my family.”
The Top 12 Finalists will be invited to attend the official dessert judging on July 20, at JAX Cooking Studio at 5:30 p.m. in Jacksonville.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
A minimum of six tastings must be on a presentation serving plate for the judges
Each child must bring the completed dessert’s name, recipe and the child’s name on a piece of paper to accompany the dessert.
Rules for Finalists: There are no substitutions or transfer of prizes. Prizes are not redeemable for cash. By acceptance of prizes, winners consent to use of their names and/or photographs for publicity purposes without further compensation. Finalists will be notified by July 8.
Following the contest, names of winners will be posted on the website www.womensfoodalliance.com.
All Finalists will have a story published about them in www.Jax4Kids.com.
The judges are: Nancy Slatsky, pastry chef and manager at JAX Cooking Studio; Rebecca Reed, executive pastry chef for Black Sheep Restaurant Group; and, Nancy Guarnieri, cook at St. Francis Inn Bed and Breakfast.
