The Ponte Vedra Lady Sharks lacrosse team lost to Hagerty High School 11-9 on Monday at home in the regional semifinals.

Both teams came out strong and traded offensive and defensive blows. The back-and-forth action between two of the state’s top lacrosse programs saw the score tied 6-6 at halftime. The second half saw more of the same as the fast-paced play continued.

The Lady Sharks were once again led by senior captain and midfielder Ella Madson with five goals, seven draw controls and one turnover caused. Junior midfielder Lexi Johnson, with two goals, three draw controls, one groundball and one turnover caused, kept the Sharks in the game with crucial draw controls to give the Lady Sharks the opportunity to finish and earn the right to play in the regional finals.

It was not to be, however, as Hagerty was able to take the lead midway through the final half. Without a shot clock in high school, Hagerty was able to control the ball and run significant time off the clock. In the end, Hagerty star Katie Williams’ five goals were just too much for the Sharks.

Hagerty advances to the regional finals. The Lady Sharks end the season with a final record of 15-4.
