Landrum Middle School’s Best Buddies visit animals at Fantasy Farms

Landrum Middle School’s Best Buddies group, under the direction of Sarah Newsome and her assistants, visited Fantasy Farms in Ponte Vedra for an outing on Jan. 12.

Ringtail lemurs, goats, silkie chickens, colorful parrots and especially Beamer the white horse and his companion Angie, the miniature horse, were preening for the Best Buddies. Lulu, the umbrella cockatoo, made lots of noise and climbed up and down her cage in excitement as the children encouraged her to talk. Everyone settled in at Roscoe’s, the party house filled with toys, and filled up on pizzas for lunch.

Best Buddies consists of volunteers who create opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Fantasy Farms is a nonprofit located at 194 South Roscoe Blvd. in Ponte Vedra with a primary focus of hosting charitable, corporate, wedding and other events, while maintaining an animal sanctuary. The nonprofit is hosting its next fundraiser on Saturday, April 6. Visit www.fantasyfarmsevents.org for more information.
