Legends to perform at local venues

The St. Augustine Amphitheatre and Ponte Vedra Concert Hall continue to stage top acts this year. And some of these are seasoned performers who have built large fan bases over the course of their careers. Here’s a look at a few concerts local residents may want to check out.

Willie Nelson & Family

Willie Nelson has earned just about every musical award possible over his seven-decade career. In addition, he has achieved a notable reputation as an author, actor and activist.

But he’s not finished yet.

In recent years, he has delivered more than a dozen new albums; released a Top 10 New York Times bestseller; headlined Farm Aid, an event he co-founded in 1985; been honored by the Library of Congress with their Gershwin Prize for Popular Song; received his fifth degree black belt in Gong Kwon Yu Sul; headlined the annual Luck Reunion food and music festival during SXSW; launched his cannabis companies, Willie's Reserve and Willie's Remedy; and appeared on the covers of Rolling Stone and AARP The Magazine.

In July 2020, he released “First Rose of Spring,” an atmospheric, soulful album of beautifully written songs and poignant performances. In September of that year, he and his sister, pianist Bobbie Nelson, produced a memoir, “Me and Sister Bobbie: True Tales of The Family Band.”

In February 2021, he released “That’s Life,” an album of standards and classics made famous by Frank Sinatra. This was a follow-up to Nelson’s 2018 Sinatra tribute, “My Way,” which earned him a Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Solo Album.

In June that same year, Nelson published “Willie Nelson’s Letters to America,” a collection of his thoughts about America, family, faith and music.

Willie Nelson & Family will perform two shows at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre: 8 p.m. Feb. 24 and 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26. Also appearing will be alternative rock-folk band Deer Tick.

The Beach Boys

Since The Beach Boys formed in 1961 in Hawthorne, California, the band has had numerous hit singles and sold tens of millions of albums. Its influence on the music scene cannot be overstated.

The band is led by Mike Love, who is joined by longtime member Bruce Johnston, musical director Scott Totten, Brian Eichenberger, Christian Love, Tim Bonhomme, John Cowsill, Keith Hubacher and Randy Leago.

Johnston joined The Beach Boys in 1965, replacing Glenn Campbell, who filled in for Brian Wilson, on vocals and bass, when he retired from touring.

The band’s current lineup will perform at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre.

The Moody Blues’ John Lodge

John Lodge, bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues, returns to the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall on March 10 with his new show, which starts at 8 p.m.

Lodge and his 10,000 Light Years Band will perform The Moody Blues’ iconic “Days of Future Passed” album in its entirety.

The audience will be transported back to 1967 with “Nights in White Satin,” “Tuesday Afternoon” and “Peak Hour” and hear how 55 years of technical advancements gives these hits a modern sound.
