Local businesses collect for Helene victims

Local efforts are under way to help victims of Hurricane Helene. The death toll has risen to nearly 200 by Thursday morning and hundreds of people remain missing. Meanwhile, the financial impact has been estimated into the tens of billions of dollars.

The impact has especially been catastrophic in North Carolina.

Laura Bishop and Kim Bright of the Bright Bishop Group (R Studio and MoveBright) have announced that they will collect needed items between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. now through Oct. 14 for the storm victims.

Items needed include:

  • Nonperishable food
  • All warm clothes
  • Toiletries
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Bottled water
  • Paper towels
  • Diapers and baby formula
  • Blankets
  • Pet food and supplies
  • Sleeping bags

Cash donations are also being accepted. Donations may be made via Paypal. Go to @kimrhomestudio@gmail.com.

The drop-off location for donated items is Suite 1486, 1462 Third St. South, Jacksonville Beach.

In addition, Gary Smith, general manager of the Alhambra Theatre & Dining, plans to drive a truck loaded with essential supplies to North Carolina on Oct. 8.

“With over 155,000 subscribers in our database, we are eager to rally our supporters to help those affected in North Carolina,” said Craig Smith, managing partner of the Alhambra, in an email to patrons. “Beyond our loyal customers, we are calling on the entire Jacksonville community to join us in this relief effort, and we are hopeful for their participation.”

Donations are being accepted at the Alhambra Theatre, 12000 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville. Contributions can be dropped off from now until Monday, Oct. 7, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

  • Clorox wipes
  • Paper and plastic kitchen products
  • Cleaning Supplies/bleach
  • Lighters/matches
  • Bottled and jug water
  • Nonperishable food items
  • Snack items bulk and individual wrapped
  • Storage containers
  • Soda/sports drinks
  • Baby formula and food
  • Diapers
  • Baby wipes
  • Garbage bags/trash bags
  • Work Gloves
  • Socks of all sizes
  • Brooms, shovels, axes
  • Canned food and juices, manual can openers
  • Face coverings/masks
  • Hand sanitizer and soap
  • Sanitizing wipes
  • Bottled and jug water
  • Canned and dry dog food
  • First aid kits
  • Flashlights, radios and batteries
  • Hand and body towels
  • Blankets, pillows or sleeping bags
  • Toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine supplies
  • Books, games or playing cards
  • Empty gas cans
