Local Ponte Vedra Beach church, Lord of Life Lutheran Church, will host its second annual shredding fundraiser in the parking lot of the church located at 276 Roscoe Blvd North. Residents can get a head start on fall cleaning by tossing out old, sensitive papers at a community paper shredding event from 9 a.m. to noon, Aug. 17.
Award-winning secure destruction company Iron Mountain will be on site with a truck. Residents simply drive in and get help from church members unloading their papers into a bin. Then they can watch the bin move up to be dumped inside the truck and see the shredding in action on a small computer monitor on the side of the truck. Done!
“We held our first event last November and everyone who came that day commented on how useful this was and much needed,” Cindy Tanton, church council president, said. “We had a steady stream of cars coming in and people got a kick out of seeing the computer monitor to know that their papers were securely shredded.”
With the threat of identity theft growing, paper shredding events are one way to get rid of important papers securely. Suggested for shredding are utdated tax records, medical statements, utility bills, credit card statements, old passports and employment records. According to the public policy think tank Privacy and American Business, 1 in 5 Americans identify themselves as a victim of identity theft.[i]
The church is asking for a $25 donation for this service per car/persons dropping off paper. The funds raised will go towards the church Building Campaign Fund and a local charity. The church has received its approvals locally to move forward with building a new sanctuary and the next step will be to survey the intended spot once more and then start on pouring the concrete foundation.
