Local group helping Afghan refugee family resettle

Posted

A small group of parishioners from Christ Episcopal Church is organizing the resettlement of a family from Afghanistan to Ponte Vedra Beach. The family fled Afghanistan in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal.

The ministry team working on this effort has secured an apartment, along with some basic furnishings and housewares, and now is asking for help from the wider community to help provide employment, food, clothing and furniture.

The father served alongside the U.S. in a military capacity and as an interpreter, according to the ministry team. His goal is to become an American citizen. His wife and cousin hope to start a business. The women don’t speak English, so English tutoring services are being sought.

The team hopes to get the family settled in and cover their living expenses for the first year.

Cash-deductible donations are being accepted through Christ Episcopal Church for this effort, online at christepiscopalchurch.org, by mail, drop off or contact the office, 904-285-6127 for details. Donations should include the words “Refugee Resettlement.”
