The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent self-inflicted shooting that occurred Thursday evening at The Shoppes of Ponte Vedra.

According to a Sheriff’s spokesman, the victim was alone in a vehicle in the parking lot when his long gun was discharged, hitting him. A witness reported seeing the shooting.

The victim exited the vehicle and ran to a restaurant nearby, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He was airlifted to a hospital where he was last reported to be in stable condition, according to media reports.

As of Monday morning, investigators had not had an opportunity to interview the man.
