Jacksonville Beach small business owner Joey Jennings opened his store, Mother Holistic, not only to educate the community about the healing properties of hemp but also to offer an alternative to commercial pharmaceutical drugs.
Mother Holistic opened its doors in 2018, a few short years after Jennings left his corporate job as a financial advisor and embarked on a holistic healing journey across the world.
“I was using pharmaceutical drugs for many years to manage my pain, which started to affect me not only physically but mentally,” Jennings said. “I reached a point where I realized I couldn’t continue living life like this. So, I knew I needed to make a change.”
He took a leave of absence, traveled to countries like Central and South America, and participated in plant-based medicine retreats to help find a solution for his pain. When Jennings discovered CBD, it was as if a whole new world of possibilities unfurled before him.
“I was familiar with cannabis, but I didn’t think there was a non-psychoactive side to it,” he said. “I was intrigued and went down the rabbit hole, studying about cannabis plants and the compounds in the plants.”
After more than six months of immersing himself in the holistic healing properties of hemp, Jennings decided to turn his exploration of healing into a business that could help others.
Mother Holistic specializes in products that treat stress, sleep, and pain. There are products with non-psychoactive properties, for the customers who want relief but don’t like the euphoric feeling often associated with THC, and there are also products with psychoactive properties at varying levels. Although technically considered a dispensary, Mother Holistic does not sell marijuana, and therefore customers do not need a medical marijuana card.
Mother Holistic offers a diverse range of products across different categories, from infused chocolates and CBD flower to topicals and skin care. The topical treatments are best suited for relieving aches and pains all over the body, good for overall wear and tear, or extreme pain relief. The store also sells CBD products for dogs, just as effective on four-legged friends as it is on humans.
“I named my company Mother Holistic because I believe you have to take a holistic approach to living a happy and healthy life,” Jennings said.
