Ongoing supply-chain and worker shortages have forced the St. Johns County School District to delay the opening of Beachside High School.
Though classes will resume Wednesday, Aug. 10, for the 2022-23 academic year at the district’s other schools, Beachside will open the following Monday, Aug. 15. Construction continues at the district’s ninth high school.
“Both material supplies and manpower have been in high demand in the construction industry and have slowed construction projects throughout the country,” wrote Superintendent of Schools Tim Forson in a letter earlier this week to parents. “Like the schools we opened last year, priorities had to be determined for the start of school. For school construction, this is especially challenging since school start dates are rigid and provide for only limited flexibility.”
Forson wrote that the academic building, administration building, cafeteria and other program resources would be ready when the school opens.
“The delayed start at Beachside will allow for continued critical site work and allow for continued progress on the gymnasium and auditorium,” he wrote.
Beachside is located at 200 Great Barracuda Way, Saint Johns, within the Twin Creeks Development. It is expected to accommodate 1,100 students and more than 100 staff members.
Academies to be offered at Beachside include: Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Information Technology, Veterinary Assisting and Biomedical Sciences.
The school’s administration will keep parents up-to-date concerning schedules and events planned for the Beachside kick off.
