Jacksonville Beach has a new weather monitoring system, WeatherSTEM. The city’s Emergency Preparedness Division and the state Division of Emergency Management installed it as the result of a Florida Severe Weather Network Grant.
The state-of-the-art weather station will allow for more accurate weather forecasting. It will provide live-streaming with high-resolution cameras, weather health and safety alert notifications, lightning detection, heat-level monitoring and real-time and future-cast radar information.
“Having the WeatherSTEM Weather Station in Jacksonville Beach, on the beach, will provide the ability for the Ocean Rescue Division to monitor weather conditions that can cause a threat to bathers and beachgoers,” said Maxwell Ervanian, prevention and training officer for the Jacksonville Beach Ocean Rescue Division. “The WeatherSTEM weather station will also provide the ability for visitors of Jacksonville Beach to view weather, beach and ocean conditions, looking east from the pier and looking south down the beach from the pier.”
