McKenzie’s Run is Saturday

The 13th Annual McKenzie’s Run on Saturday, Nov. 19, will help create great futures for local young people who attend Boys & Girls Clubs across Northeast Florida. They depend on support from the community to continue receiving free after-school and summer programs to help them reach their full potential.

By running or walking at the event, community members can help invest in the futures of these local young people. This year’s McKenzie’s Run is expected to be bigger and better than ever as Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida, which has hosted the run since 2019, celebrates its 60th anniversary.

This popular, family-friendly 5K and 1-mile fun run is expected to draw more than 1,000 people. Register to run or simply donate at McKenziesRun.org/register.

Runners and walkers will enjoy a race route through THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra. Both races are followed by an after-party with live music, food, face painting, culinary demonstrations, health screenings and more. All proceeds benefit the 48 local Boys & Girls Clubs across Duval, St. Johns, Clay and Alachua counties that serve more than 4,800 young people, ages 6-18.

McKenzie’s Run is part of the Great Futures Weekend, which also includes the 2nd Annual Great Futures Golf Classic held on Friday, Nov. 18, at THE PLAYERS Stadium Course.

The 13th Annual McKenzie’s Run is made possible through the support of the The McKenzie Noelle Wilson Foundation, The Church of Eleven22 and THE PLAYERS.

Military lounge to reopen at JAX airport

The Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) has announced that it will open an airport lounge for traveling U.S. military service men and women and their families at Jacksonville International Airport. The lounge will open before the end of the year.

The military lounge will be located on the lower level by baggage claim in space previously occupied by the USO, which closed its airport location Oct. 17. The authority will refurbish and update the space and work with North Jacksonville Rotary Club, United Way’s Mission United and the Veterans Council of Duval County to provide coordination and volunteers.

“With Northeast Florida’s deep ties to the military community, having a designated lounge area for service men and women was incredibly important to us,” JAA CEO Mark VanLoh said. “So many members travel through our airport daily. We wanted to create a location to welcome them.”
