Novelist reveals world of prison workers

Posted

When Len Richelle retired after 20 years with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, she embraced the freedom to pursue her passion for writing and traveling. The author of several travel-inspired children’s books, a blog and the novel “Twisted Lover: Her Dangerous Obsession,” Richelle has a unique perspective on challenges facing crime writers.

Richelle will share her perspectives and experience at the Northeast Florida Sisters in Crime February meeting.

During her tenure with the bureau, she worked as a correctional counselor, special investigations technician, reentry affairs coordinator and firearms instructor. Her presentation will bridge the gap between her past experience and present focus.

Attendees will gain:

  • A glimpse into the realities of working in federal prisons;
  • Understanding of how challenging careers can spark creativity;
  • Inspiration for pursuing passion projects in retirement; and
  • A new perspective on the human side of our justice system.

Sisters in Crime welcomes all writers and readers interested in the topic to attend. The meeting will be held at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Ponte Vedra Beach Library, 101 Library Blvd., Ponte Vedra Beach, in the Friends of the Library (FOL) room.

Northeast Florida Sisters in Crime is a chapter of the national organization and serves mystery, crime and thriller writers and readers. Programs feature speakers in forensic science, psychology and law enforcement.

Bring your coffee and bring a friend. The group welcomes men and women to learn more about writing, promoting and enjoying crime fiction.
