Ocean Palms applauds those who give their time

Ocean Palms Elementary School has awarded three people its Volunteer of the Year awards: Ysabel Jack (Outstanding Youth Volunteer of the Year), Dr. Lucy Miller (Adult Volunteer of the Year) and Mark Tolton (Outstanding Senior Volunteer of the Year).

Jack, formerly a student ambassador at Ocean Palms, has continued to support the program at the school by helping the current student ambassadors with projects. Additionally, she hosted a Junior British Tea Party event as a PTO fundraiser and worked as a mentor to students at the school with higher social needs.

Miller is also no stranger as a volunteer, serving on the SAC committee, as a PTO event co-chair and pretty much everywhere else help is needed. However, she is best known for her co-creation of the school’s science lab. From raising funds, to hands-on lessons, to bringing her love of STEM to the school, she achieved all of this and more with the school’s unique science lab.

Tolton has been described as “magical” and lends a caring hand to the pre-kindergarten students at the school. He helps provide individualized tutoring to the students, enhancing their learning and building their confidence.
