Ocean Palms playground unveiled

Ocean Palms Elementary School officially unveiled its new, community-funded playground on Feb. 8 at a small ribbon-cutting ceremony where sponsors, PTO members, administration and the Chamber of Commerce members applauded the project’s success.

This was an endeavor that began in the fall of 2019. The playground was installed before the start of the 2020 school year, in time for students at the school to enjoy the many slides, ladders and other activities the play structure has to offer, but the official opening ceremony was delayed due to COVID precautions.

School fundraising events, alongside project sponsors such as the Kneeland Hunter Family Fund, Flagler Health+, the JT Townsend Foundation, Memorial Hospital Memorial Health, Training for Warriors, Brown & Brown Insurance, John Merrill Homes and Arthur Ruthenberg Homes all helped make The Otter Park possible.

Landon Hunter, a third-grade student at Ocean Palms who encouraged his family to donate to the project through their family foundation, led the ribbon cutting.
