Offense continues to shine, as Sharks win second straight

For the second straight week, the Ponte Vedra Sharks scored more than 30 points, this time en route to a 34-12 victory over visiting Menendez Sept. 23.

Starting quarterback Ben Burk had another stellar performance with a pair of passing touchdowns and a rushing score, while the defense helped set the tone by holding the Falcons scoreless in the first half.

The following are quotes from Ponte Vedra players and coaches after the game:

Junior quarterback Ben Burk

“We’ve been really executing along the (offensive) line, and our receivers are really making plays,” Burk said. “That touchdown pass tonight, was all Wyatt (Rogers).”

“Getting up at 6:30 (a.m.) every day of the week and putting the work in is what has helped build our chemistry,” Burk said.

“Coach Price said that the game will start to slow down for me this year, and he was definitely right,” Burk said.

“I trust those guys (offensive line) with my life,” Burk said.

Senior linebacker Trooper Price

“I’ve always been a Ben Burk fan, because I know all the work that he’s put in during the offseason,” Price said. “We’ve just got a bunch of playmakers on offense this year.”

“We’ve had great coaches who have coached us since we were super young, so we have great technique and we’re just going to keep building on that moving forward,” Price said. “We’re hungry and we want to get better. We’re not happy to see 12 points, because we want a shutout. Striving for perfection is what makes it so great.”

“The season starts now,” Price said. “We didn’t make the playoffs last year, and that cut us all deep, so we know this is a must win and I think we’re going to be ready.”

Junior running back Griffin Owen

“I like to run, but when there’s a big hole to run through,” Owen said. “It’s the best when you can get out in space and make a move.”

“Especially when everything is moving so fast out there, it helps to have great vision as a running back,” Owen said. “I played receiver last year, but it really has been a smooth transition.”

Head coach Steve Price

“Our offensive line has been great, and they dominated the football game tonight,” Price said. “It’s all about having that success up front.”

“we’ve got some things we still need to clean up and get better at, because it gets tougher now,” Price said. “I’m proud of our guys. We’re close.”

“I thought last week was a real breakout for him (Burk), and he played really well again tonight,” Price said. “He’s a winner and a competitor, and a really good leader for us.”
