THE PLAYERS Championship announced on Tuesday that Tyler Oldenburg, a tournament volunteer since 2013, has been appointed as the newest volunteer vice-chairman. According to a press release from THE PLAYERS, Oldenburg joins the four existing vice-chairs who, along with 2020 Tournament Chairman Andy Carroll, lead the 2,100-plus volunteer force that makes the PGA TOUR’s flagship event possible. With Oldenburg’s appointment, he joins Carroll; First Vice-Chair Troy Smith; and vice-chairs Matt Welch, Houston Bowles and Lee Nimnicht.

“Tyler has held multiple leadership positions at THE PLAYERS within several committees, spanning from general parking and ecology to practice grounds, Birdies for the Brave Patriots’ Outpost and Benefactor,” Carroll said. “His strong work ethic, varied experiences as a volunteer and ability to lead others are extremely valuable assets for this position. I speak on behalf of all past tournament chairmen and my vice-chairs when I say we are thrilled to have Tyler join the volunteer leadership team.”

As vice-chairman, Oldenburg will oversee the Volunteer Services division, which supervises apparel, credentials, volunteer dining, office personnel, photography, supply, VIP parking, information, off-site shuttle and volunteer personnel.

“Volunteering at THE PLAYERS enables me to give back to the Northeast Florida community while surrounding myself with a sport I love, people I enjoy working with and a tournament that is truly one of the best sporting events in the world,” Oldenburg said. “It is an honor to be elected to this position, and I look forward to using my role on THE PLAYERS volunteer leadership team to grow the charitable dollars THE PLAYERS generates for local charities each year.”

Oldenburg holds a Juris Doctor degree from Mercer University and a Bachelor of Economics from Emory University, where he was also a member of the university’s golf team. Oldenburg is currently a shareholder at Marks Gray. In addition, he is active in other community endeavors and organizations, including the Deerwood Improvement Association, Deerwood Rotary and Deerwood County Club. His past involvement includes work with Morning Star School, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Jacksonville and the University of North Florida.

Oldenburg and his wife, Katelyn, live in Jacksonville with their two children, Andrew and Chloe.

THE PLAYERS 2020 is March 9-15 at TPC Sawgrass. More information about THE PLAYERS is available at THEPLAYERS.com.
