The Constellation Furyk and Friends Concert and Celebrity Golf Classic kicked off Sunday, Sept. 28, with Operation Shower at the Timuquana Country Club. Operation Shower is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing military moms and their families with a baby shower to let them know they are not alone.
The Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation was created in 2010 to help children and families in need. The foundation partners with charities across North Florida to provide project specific funding. They are one of the many sponsors of Operation Shower. Even though the Furyks were not in attendance, Tabitha Furyk sent a special video message to the shower guests.
“This is an opportunity to thank all of you for the amazing things that you do not only for your families but also for our country,” she said.
There were 35 military families represented, and this marked 233 baby showers given by Operation Shower. All the moms received gifts for both them and their babies, including a gift from Underwood Jewelers, a gift from the Furyk Foundation, diapers, a highchair and countless other baby supplies.
Operation Shower strives to ease the stress of deployment and give moms a chance to celebrate together.
“We want you to leave here knowing you are celebrated, supported and deeply appreciated,” said one of the representatives from Operation Shower.
Allison Phillips, one of the moms in attendance, knows the stress of deployment all too well. Phillips is getting ready to welcome her first child into the world, but she has not been able to share much of that journey with her spouse, who is currently deployed.
The Furyk and Friends golf tournament is Sept. 28 to Oct. 5 at the Timuquana Country Club. The Community Concert Series featuring Love and Theft and Locash will take place Friday, Oct. 3, and Saturday, Oct. 4, after golf has concluded for the day.
