Ocean Palms Elementary School’s recent Scholastic Spring Book Fair featured a student-led fundraiser that ultimately raised $250.10 for K9s for Warriors.

Known as Pennies for Puppies, the fundraiser collected change from OPES students. The funds will contribute to food, dog supplies and training for the local nonprofit.

Fourth-grade ambassador-in-training Lauren Thompson received permission from her principal to build a team for the fundraiser and raise money at the fair. Her team — consisting of third grader Carter Penella and fourth graders Emily Silber and Brianna Miiller —  helped promote the fundraiser on the school news and via posters.

OPES Principal Tiffany Cantwell said the school will be hosting Pennies for Puppies again next year. For more information on K9s for Warriors and to donate, visit www.k9sforwarriors.org.
