Organic grocer launches ‘Staples with Standards’ to make healthy food more accessible

In June, Native Sun launched its new program called “Staples with Standards,” an initiative that offers customers access to organic grocery staples at lower prices. The program focuses on four key items — eggs, beef, chicken and milk.

Through partnerships with farmers and food producers that share Native Sun’s standards, these items will be offered at competitive prices without sacrificing quality. Products currently included in Native Sun’s Staples with Standards program are Organic Valley milk and eggs, Springer Mountain Farms chicken and Creekstone Farms beef.

The company believes Jacksonville residents should be able to differentiate between products that use marketing phrases like “all-natural” and “additive-free,” and products that are truly high quality and healthy for their families.

Native Sun owner, Aaron Gottlieb, said that Staples with Standards is a response to the grocery industry’s decision to shift marketing toward health and wellness.

“USDA organic, non-GMO verified and gluten-free have become part of mainstream sales flyers and in-store signage,” Gottlieb said. “Native Sun is excited about consumer passion, but we’ve witnessed these terms being misused and misrepresented to imply a standard. We want to cut through the noise and make it easy to find the best quality products for the best possible prices.”

For more than 20 years, Native Sun has been bringing natural and organic food to the Jacksonville market. The company operates in three area locations, the original store on San Jose Boulevard, another on Baymeadows Road, and one in Jacksonville Beach on Third Street. All Native Sun stores are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The San Jose Boulevard and Baymeadows Road stores are open from 10 a.m.to 6 p.m. on Sundays. The Jacksonville Beach store is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays through summer. For more information about Native Sun, visit  www.nativesunjax.com/newsandevents.
