Planning for the future with Ponte Vedra Resort’s PUD

Posted

The Ponte Vedra Inn & Club and The Lodge & Club Ponte Vedra Beach have been cherished venues for some of life’s greatest celebrations. From weddings to milestone birthdays, holiday parties and many others, the clubs serve as gathering places for family and friends. Even more, they also play a role in helping local professionals develop and grow business relationships. These personal and professional moments benefit members, guests and the Ponte Vedra community.

At GATE, we are honored to play a part in so many meaningful events, and we are committed to preserving and investing in the future of these resorts. That is why we created a master plan that allows more resilient buildings that can withstand damage from severe weather events and enhance the resorts’ amenities. Key to delivering the master plan is a request to rezone just under a third of our existing property to planned unit development (PUD). The PUD not only guarantees that the properties can only be used for resorts, but it also ensures that the redevelopment will be done in a way that maintains the unique character and charm of the resorts.

Since our initial proposal, we have actively listened to the feedback from neighbors, community members and St. Johns County officials. As a result, we have amended our plans significantly and we are confident the current proposal reflects the best interests of the community as well as the clubs.

For example, we clarified that no development will occur on golf courses, removed the Palmer Building (located on the corner of Corona Road and Ponte Vedra Boulevard) from the PUD, eliminated a request for additional height on the Oceanfront Lodge building, lowered a height request for future room buildings at PVIC and much more. These conversations and plan revisions build upon years of diligent, thoughtful planning required to replicate and duplicate our nearly century-old resort, The Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, as well as The Lodge & Club at Ponte Vedra Beach.

Together, the two properties attract more than 130,000 visitors each year and generate upward of $10.8 million in annual tax revenue. Additionally, the resorts employ more than 1,100 individuals. By voting in favor of the PUD, St. Johns County officials are ensuring the clubs continue to positively impact our local economy through both tourism and property values. It also allows the resorts to create more resilient facilities that ultimately will enhance member experience and allow the clubs to be relevant and competitive in the hospitality sector for years to come.

As we have demonstrated over the past several months, we are dedicated to being a good neighbor, and we strongly believe our investment in the club is just one more way we are meeting that commitment. We are proud of what the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club and The Lodge & Club have, and with PUD approval, can continue to contribute to our community.
