Players by the Sea to present ‘Spring Awakening’

Jacksonville Beach community theater Players by the Sea will present “Spring Awakening,” a contemporary rock musical set in an 1890s provincial German town. The show will run April 24-May 16.

The production offers a look inside the minds of teens in midst of transformation. Where do babies come from? Who will listen when times are hard, and they need to vent? How does one bring progression to society?

With themes like oppression, abuse and mental illness, the musical, with a cast of 20, aims to transcend the walls of the theater and make an impact on the community.

“This is a show that has been on the top of my list for so long now that it feels a little surreal to finally bring it to life,” said production director Bradley Akers. “I'm honored to guide this extraordinary cast of local performers and this creative team through this journey as we bring this relevant, kinetic, and important story to life.”

The show includes mature content and is suitable for ages 16 and older.

Players by the Sea is located at 106 N. Sixth St. in Jacksonville Beach.
