PLAYERS Community Senior Center announces June schedule

The following programs will be held at COA’s THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center, 175 Landrum Lane, Ponte Vedra Beach, beginning in June. All classes are four weeks long and begin June 4. For further information, call the center at 904-209-3659 or go to coasjc.org/ponte-vedra-center.

Lunch — Tuesdays: Four weeks starting June 4 from noon to 1 p.m. Registration required in advance and fee required — $5 per meal.

Lunch — Thursdays: Four weeks starting June 6 from noon to 1 p.m. Registration required in advance and fee required — $5 per meal.

Duplicate Bridge: Four weeks starting Friday, June 7, from noon to 3 p.m. Fee required — $2 per person, per Friday.

Line Dancing Class: Instructor Will Oglesby teaches many different line dances with a good selection of music. Open to all adults and experience levels. Four weeks starting Wednesday, June 5, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Fee required — $37.50 per month or $9 per class.

Tap Dance Class: Instructor Ginny Wirzbicki brings much experience to this style of dance and encourages all different levels to learn. Four weeks starting Friday, June 7, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Fee required — $25 for the month or $6.25 per class.

Hisshin Sumi-E Painting Class: Traditional East Asian Brush Painting. This class typically meets several months out of the year. This month the date is Thursday, June 13. Class is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fee required — $3 per person.

Acrylic Painting: Four weeks starting Wednesday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to noon. No fee required. Instructor on site Wednesday, June 12.

Caregiver Support Group: This free program will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5. The group is open to all adult caregivers; meets once a month, on the first Wednesday of each month. Register with the Alzheimer’s Association at 800-272-3900.

Chair Exercise — Tuesdays: Four weeks starting Tuesday, June 4, from 9:30 to 10 a.m.

Chair Exercise — Thursdays: Four weeks starting Thursday, June 6, from 9:30 to 10 a.m.

Tai Chi: Four weeks starting Thursday, June 6, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Canasta — Tuesdays: Four weeks starting Tuesday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to noon. 

Canasta — Thursdays: Four weeks starting Thursday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Mah Jongg — Wednesdays: Four weeks starting Wednesday, June 5, 2-5 p.m. There are two game sets and two 2024 cards that may be checked out at the front desk.

Mah Jongg — Fridays: Four weeks starting Friday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to noon. There are two game sets and two 2024 cards that may be checked out at the front desk.

Mexican Train Dominoes: Four weeks starting Tuesday, June 4, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Ask a Nurse: Four weeks starting Tuesday, June 4, from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

Bingo — Tuesdays: Four weeks starting Tuesday, June 4, 1-2 p.m.

Bingo — Thursdays: Four weeks starting Thursday, June 6, 1-2 p.m.

Social Bridge: Four weeks starting Wednesday, June 5, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Board Game Playing: Rummikub, Scrabble and more! Four weeks starting Wednesday, June 5, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Wii Bowling: Four weeks starting Thursday, June 6, 10-11 a.m.

Technical Help for phones and computers: Available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon.

Medicare: Learn about special enrollment periods from Christopher Hoff, Medicare specialist and independent insurance agent. He will explain his free services to help you choose Medicare plans and answer questions. Tuesday, June 4, from 11 to noon.

Hurricane Season starts June 1! The Red Cross will be on site for a free presentation on Hurricane Preparedness. Thursday, June 6, 11 a.m. to noon.

Library Visit: The Ponte Vedra Beach Branch of the St. John’s County Public Library System visits. Come make a seasonal craft and learn about the programs your local library has to offer. Tuesday, June 11, from 11 a.m. to noon.

ADT Alert Devices: Learn about ADT’s medical/fall alert systems that can help you to continue living independently, while comfortable and content inside or outside your home. Special rates are available; come talk to local representatives for more information. Tuesday, June 11, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Flag Day! The National Guard visits to celebrate Flag Day and the birthdate of the U.S. Army. Thursday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to noon. Light refreshments will be served; wear your red, white and blue!

Medication Management: Learn important safety, storage and disposal tips from Donna Crivaro, RN. Tuesday, June 18, from 11 to noon.

Community Hospice Presentation: This program describes the most common types of family conflict; and provides techniques and tips to help your family reduce the drama. Thursday, June 20, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Happy Birthday June Babies! This will be a luau with cake, ice cream and the music of The Coconuts! Tuesday, June 25, from 11 a.m. to noon. Wear your Hawaiian Shirt and win a prize!

Check Your Blood Pressure with Nurse Fran: Thursday, June 27, 10-11 a.m. Free

Toastmasters: Here’s something new and exciting! Come in, listen to a speech or two and play “Table Topics” with the local Toastmasters Chapter. Toastmasters International is a 100-year-old nonprofit educational organization that builds confidence and teaches public speaking skills. If you choose to participate, you’ll have two minutes to tell a story or answer a random question while others listen and provide feedback. Thursday, June 27, from 11 a.m. to noon.
