PLAYERS Community Senior Center announces March classes, events

The following programs will be held at COA’s THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center, 175 Landrum Lane, Ponte Vedra Beach, beginning in March. Most classes are five weeks long and begin the first week of March. If you have any questions or wish to register, call Suzanne Duvall at 904-209-3659.

Lunch — Thursdays: Five weeks starting Thursday, March 2, from noon to 1 p.m. Registration required a week in advance and fee required, $5 per meal.

Lunch — Tuesdays: Four weeks starting Tuesday, March 7, from noon to 1 p.m. Registration required a week in advance and fee required, $5 per meal.

Duplicate Bridge: Five weeks starting Friday, March 3, from noon to 3 p.m. Fee required: $2 per person, per Friday.

Line Dancing Class: Instructor Will Oglesby teaches many different line dances with a good selection of music. Open to all adults and experience levels. Five weeks starting Wednesday, March 1, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Registration and fee required: $37.50 per month.

Tap Dance Class: Instructor Ginny Wirzbicki brings much experience to this style of dance and encourages all different levels of dance to learn. Five weeks starting Friday, March 3, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Registration and fee required: $25 per month. 

Hisshin Sumi-E Painting Class: Traditional East Asian brush painting. Only one week on Thursday, March 16, at 11:30 a.m. This class meets once a month. Fee required: $3 per person.

Acrylic Painting: Five weeks starting Wednesday, March 1, from 9 a.m. to noon. No fee required.

Caregiver Support Group (free program): Only one week on Wednesday, March 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Open to all adult caregivers. Meets once a month, on the first Wednesday of each month. Register with the Alzheimer’s Association at 800-272-3900.

Chair Exercise — Wednesdays: Five weeks starting Wednesday, March 1, from 9 to 9:30 a.m.

Chair Exercise — Thursdays: Five weeks starting Thursday, March 2, from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m.

Chair Exercise — Tuesdays: Four weeks starting Tuesday, March 7, from 9:30 to 10 a.m.

Tai Chi: Five weeks starting Thursday, March 2, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Canasta — Thursdays: Five weeks starting Thursday, March 2, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Canasta — Tuesdays: Four weeks starting Tuesday, March 7, from 10 a.m. to noon. 

Mexican Train Dominoes: Four weeks starting Tuesday, March 7, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Ask a Nurse: Four weeks starting Tuesday, March 7, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Bingo — Thursdays: Five weeks starting Thursday, March 2, from 1 to 2 p.m.

Bingo — Tuesdays: Four weeks starting Tuesday, March 7, from 1 to 2 p.m.

Jeopardy Style Trivia/Brain Games: Enjoy games and other activities for seniors from never2old4games.com. Five weeks starting Wednesday, March 1, from 10:30 to 11:30 p.m.

Social Bridge: Five weeks starting Wednesday, March 1, from 9 to 9:30 a.m.

Board Game Playing: Five weeks starting Wednesday, March 1, from 9 to 9:30 a.m.

Wii Bowling: Five weeks starting Thursday, March 2, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Tech Help: Five weeks starting Thursday, March 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Dominoes Fun: Five weeks starting Friday, March 3, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Bocce Ball: Five weeks starting Friday, March 3, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Popcorn and a Movie: Enjoy fresh hot popcorn and the springtime classic movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” on Thursday, March 2, at 11 a.m. Movie will play through lunch.

Windsor Pointe: Enjoy Fun St. Patrick’s Day trivia and a St. Patrick’s Day art craft with Sales Director Karen DeWeese. Tuesday, March 7, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Humana: Enjoy St. Patrick’s Day-themed fun, treats and information about Humana’s Medicare plans with sales representative/educator Emmanuel Andarsio. Thursday, March 9, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Alzheimer’s Association Brain Bus Visit: The Brain Bus is a statewide outreach initiative that raises awareness about Alzheimer's and related dementias. Join us as we discuss the benefits of early detection, early diagnosis, brain health, and risk reduction. Tuesday, March 14, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Monthly Birthday Bash: Come enjoy birthday cake and the music of Gary Couilette as we celebrate March birthdays. Thursday, March 16, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Dr. Erica Joy Siegel of Joyvision Acupuncture Presents: Learn about this method of treating eye diseases, successfully practiced in Europe and Asia. Tuesday, March 21, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Concierge Care: Presentation on aging with guest speaker, clinical liaison Dave Swetnam. Hosted by Concierge Care. Thursday, March 23, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Cookbook Status: Find out where we are with our efforts and vote for the cover art! Senior Center members, volunteers and staff have been submitting recipes, stories and artwork for inclusion into the 2023 THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center Cookbook. This status meeting will be held Tuesday, March 28, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Legal: Presentation on living wills and guardianships. Megan Wall, St. Johns County Legal Aid, managing attorney. Thursday, March 30, from 11 a.m. to noon.
