Ponte Vedra High School students will perform “Sister Act: The Musical” Dec. 12-15.

The family-friendly show features women of the cloth dancing effortlessly from one spotlight to the next. And the entire community is invited to groove along with the colorful characters and musical joy of the popular musical, made famous on Broadway.

Sister Act: The Musical features a disco-themed score by Alan Menken, and is directed by local talent Jason Nettle, MFA, theatre instructor at PV High School. Nettle has performed at Alhambra Theatre & Dining, and this is his fourth season in the Ponte Vedra Beach community, after stints in New York and national tours. He was recently voted Teacher of the Year at the school.

The show is the fall musical production at PV High School, where theatre students are slated to present The Hunchback of Notre Dame in April 2020. Tickets for “Sister Act,” and all shows, are sold at the door at the school’s auditorium. Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows are at 7 p.m. and Sunday’s show is at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $10 and proceeds go to benefit the high school’s dramatic arts program.

The plot revolves around cabaret-artist-turned-nun Deloris Van Cartier, played by senior Jasmine Hurt, who is forced to seek refuge in a convent after witnessing a murder. The initial constraints of convent life give way to purpose for Deloris as she shows the nuns what tolerance and humble service truly look like. Hurt previously played a supporting role in Theatre Jacksonville’s production of “Sister Act.”
