Ponte Vedra knocks off Lake Mary, advances to regional finals

The Ponte Vedra boys lacrosse team defeated Lake Mary High School 12-5 in the regional semifinals of the state championship tournament on Tuesday. 

With the game held at Lake Mary, Ponte Vedra jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period and onto a 6-3 halftime lead. Several times in the second half, Lake Mary came within two goals of the Sharks, but Ponte Vedra put away the Rams with five goals in the fourth. 

Senior attack Jack Dowd, senior attack Patrick Dotsikas and sophomore midfielder Joe Taraboletti each had three goals to lead the offense. Junior defender Tommy Zitiello had a goal and led the team with five ground balls. Freshman goalie Nolan Parlette had eight saves.

Ponte Vedra is now 21-1 on the season and will face Bolles at home Friday night for the regional championship and a chance to go to the state final four. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
