June is going to be a fun and busy time at the Ponte Vedra Branch Library. Here’s a look at the schedule.

Summer Reading Kickoff

June 1, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Join in this family event to kick off summer reading.

  • Hot air balloon crafts
  • Watch hot air balloons in the planetarium
  • Outdoor scavenger hunt
  • Tattoos
  • Pick up reading logs … and much more fun!

Family Storytime

Storytimes are held at 1 p.m. Mondays, 10:15 and 11:15 a.m. Thursdays, and 10:15 a.m. Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, July 13.

Join Ms. Robyn, Ms. Jane and Ms. Joan and celebrate “Finding Adventure at Your Library!” This is an interactive storytime for children of all ages. Enjoy books, stories, music and more. All of the sessions will be the same, so please plan to attend one of them.

Small Business BOI Report Workshop

June 3, 2-3 p.m.

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) of Florida will host workshops at St. Johns County Public Libraries to help small business owners with the new requirement for the Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) report. SBDC will have a presentation and help business owners file the report. Filing is simple, secure and free of charge.

Following the presentation, consultants will help business owners. There will be computers and laptops available on site to fill out the report if you do not bring your own laptop or tablet. Beneficial ownership information reporting is not an annual requirement. Unless a company needs to update or correct information, a report only needs to be submitted once. Please RSVP so that SBDC will have enough resources available.

Baby Storytime

Storytimes are 10:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays

This gentle lapsit program features action rhymes, songs and stories presented in a circle time format in the Children’s Library. For babies up to 12 months; siblings welcome. All of the sessions will be the same, so please plan to attend one of them.

Connections: Literacy & Music

June 4, 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Angela Pardee of First Coast Brain Builders and Karen Howell of Soundwave Music Therapy will share ideas about language development in children. This event will include a music therapy demonstration with Howell, a brief storytime with music and a quiet activity for children while caregivers enjoy the informative presentation by Pardee. Learn about connections between music, language development and literacy and how you can help children reach their full potential.

Adventures in Art

June 4, 3-4 p.m.

Have fun learning new painting strategies with Jennan and getting a little messy. Everyone will leave with an original piece of artwork.

PVB Friends of the Library Speaker Series with Jax Beach Mayor Chris Hoffman

June 4, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Jacksonville Beach Mayor Chris Hoffman, the first woman to serve as mayor of Jacksonville Beach and executive director of the Beaches Museum will speak on “Our Beaches: Past, Present and Future.”  Doors open at 6 p.m. Program begins at 6:30 p.m.

Teen Trivia and Pizza Night

June 5, 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Start your summer off with a bang! Ready to compete? Do you know your stuff? Teen trivia night is here! It’s be a night of fun, food and laughs.

Book Lovers Book Club: “Lessons in Chemistry”

June 7, 11 a.m. to noon

This month’s Book Lovers Book Club selection is “Lessons in Chemistry” by Bonnie Garmus. This group is open to all.

Movie Matinee — “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem”

June 8, 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Come enjoy movie in the cool air conditioning. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” is rated PG. Bring a blanket or pillow to sit on, hunker down and enjoy the show. Feel free to bring personal snacks and drinks (in containers that can be sealed). Open to all ages.

Adult Coloring Club

Times are: 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 11, and 1 to 2:30 p.m. June 25.

Supplies will be provided. Feel free to bring a snack.

Tech Time with Joan

June 11, 3-4 p.m.

Experiment with LEGO STEM, virtual reality, electrical circuits and so much more STEM. For ages 7-12.

Teen Maker Stations

Times are: 3-4 p.m. June 12 and June 26

There will be lots of different activities, including technology and crafts.

Crafters Corner for Adults

Adventures in Technology for Adults

June 14, 11 to 11:30 a.m.

Explore helpful tech tips each month with the adult services librarian. Each month will feature a different topic, covered over a 30-minute talk. Some sessions will include interactive instructions to use apps and computer databases, so participants are encouraged to bring their personal devices and smartphones. In June, learn how to download and use the Libby app to listen to and read your favorite books. Please RSVP at 904-827-6950. 

Nature Detectives Present: Monarch Butterfly

Times are 1 to 1:45 p.m. and 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. June 15

The Garden Club of St. Augustine is proud to introduce Marta Magellan, author of “Up, Up and Away: Monarch Butterflies.” Monarch butterflies are the celebrities of the insect world. They’re famous for their incredible long-distance flights, but there is much more to learn about them. This book touches on many questions surrounding this popular butterfly. Are they endangered? Why are there monarch look-alikes? And most importantly, what can we do to help them thrive?

Zoofari Earth

June 18, 3-4 p.m.

The team from Animal Tales in Pensacola will share animals from around the world. This is a fun and safely interactive program with verbal participation and skits where children will learn about six exotic animal ambassadors.

Hurricane Prep Workshop with SJC Emergency Management

June 18, 6-7 p.m.

St. Johns County Emergency Management will discuss the ins and outs of hurricane preparedness. During this informative session, residents can learn about hurricanes, find out how to best prepare, identify what evacuation zone they are in and learn how they can become more resilient to natural disasters. Please RSVP at 904-827-6950. 

Friday Flicks: “Ghostbusters”

June 21, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Celebrate the 40th anniversary of “Ghostbusters.” A group of unemployed parapsychologists go into business as professional ghost neutralizers. But when New York City comes under attack from a host of supernatural demons, the self-proclaimed Ghostbusters must step up and save the world from the sinister ‘Zuul.’ All ages are welcome.

Kid Crafters: Fuser Beads

June 22, 2 to 2:45 p.m.

Ever heard of Fuser Beads? Make a coaster in any design you want using beads. We will “fuse” them together using an iron (adult supervised). Lots of fun and you get to be as creative as you want. This program is for children in grades K-5.

Mindful Mondays: Summer Skin Health

June 24, 11 a.m. to noon

Join a guest health care speaker from UF Health St. Johns during Mindful Mondays to learn how you can benefit from healthy habits. Free blood pressure checks will be offered after the talk to those interested. This activity is intended for adults ages 18 and older.

Mark Allen Magic

June 25, 3-4 p.m.

Join Mark Allen and his travel buddy Bixby for an adventurous and fun interactive comedy magic show that you won’t forget! Who knows, you might even get to be part of the show! Bixby loves volunteers to help with the magic.
