Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library’s Maribeth Wood was recognized at the Library System’s Staff Development Day May 1 for “making a great impact” in the Library System over the past year.

Wood, who is celebrating one year as the Ponte Vedra Library’s reference librarian, was responsible for writing the winning grant that allowed the Library System to bring author Lisa Wingate to St. Augustine for a popular author visit and culminating event for the St. Johns Reads program. She partnered with Bartram Trail Branch Young Adult Librarian Carla Day on the grant.

Wood also recently graduated from the St. Johns County Leadership Academy, an eight-week course for 10 St. Johns County employees selected by their department head and presented by County Administrator Michael Wanchick.

Over the past year, Wood has introduced to patrons “Make and Take” crafting events; “Books and Bites” events combining reading, culture and food; and special speaker events. She has also continued popular favorites such as the Sisterhood of the Traveling Plants, Book Club, Bingo for Books and Adult Coloring Club.

A few of Wood’s upcoming programs include the following:

Make and Take: We All Scream for Ice Cream! – Tuesday, May 14 at 2 p.m.

Turtle Talk – Friday, May 17 at 10:15 a.m.

Books and Bites: Journey to Ancient Greece – Tuesday, May 21 at 2 p.m.
