The Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach held its weekly Thursday morning breakfast meeting Nov. 7 at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse to honor and celebrate the Ponte Vedra Recorder’s 50th anniversary.

The club presented Publisher Susan Griffin with an award of appreciation and recognition. County Commissioner Jeremiah Blocker then officially proclaimed the day “Ponte Vedra Recorder Day” in recognition of the publication’s service to the community for 10 decades.

Rotary Club President Vickie Cavey also congratulated Griffin for her 25 years with the paper. Present and former employees, including past editors Jennifer Logue and Jon Blauvelt and former advertising account executive Gloria Dongara, were then called to join Griffin on the stage.

“She is the paper, she embodies everything about community news,” Dongara said of Griffin during a short speech of congratulations.

“We are honored to recognize the Recorder and their great team,” Cavey said. “I think everyone in this room has been touched by the Ponte Vedra Recorder, usually good.”

After Blocker read the proclamation, projected onto a screen, Griffin was handed the microphone.

“We are very honored to receive this, it’s official,” Griffin said with a smile, encouraging everyone to get themselves a copy of the Nov. 7 keepsake 50th anniversary issue.
