Ponte Vedra tops Bolles, advances to state final four

After defeating Bolles 20-3 on May 3 in the regional final, the Ponte Vedra boys lacrosse team is headed to the state championship final four. 

The Sharks (22-1) will take on Jupiter (18-4) Friday at 4 p.m. in Boca Raton. Ponte Vedra defeated Jupiter 11-2 on March 30. The Sharks are ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 2 in the nation, according to MaxPreps. Jupiter, who defeated Cardinal Mooney 14-13 in overtime in the previous round, is ranked No. 2 in the state and No. 16 in the nation. In the other semifinal game, St. Thomas Aquinas (18-3-1) is taking on Bishop Moore (17-5). Ponte Vedra defeated Bishop Moore 10-8 on April 5 but has not played St. Thomas Aquinas this season. 

In the regional final against Bolles, Ponte Vedra jumped out to a quick lead in the first several minutes with two goals and never looked back. Senior attack Patrick Dotsikas led the Sharks with four goals. Junior midfielder Freddie Amato and senior midfielder/attack Tony Rossi each had three goals. Junior midfielder Dylan Hess and senior attack Jack Dowd each had two goals and two assists, while junior long-stick midfielder Tommy Zitiello led the team with six groundballs.
