The LiquiMoly ProWatercross National Tour event at Vilano Beach couldn’t have fallen on a better weekend. Hurricane Isaias had just blown past and with it, brought a south to north current that left the ocean a tranquil glassy, blue – perfect for tearing up with 85 mph jet skis aiming for the title.
The race kicked off on Saturday, Aug. 8 at 11 a.m., with the final professional motos scheduled to start at 5 p.m. later that day. Amateur races were held on Sunday. This year the national championship arrived at Vilano after being canceled in both Lake Charles, Louisiana, and West Palm Beach due to COVID-19. It was also the first time the series had been held in St. Augustine.
“Hosting the national championship of the LiquiMoly ProWatercross Tour is an honor for Florida’s Historic Coast and we look forward to the competition this weekend,” said Richard Goldman, President and CEO of the St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra & The Beaches Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The main event, the Pro-Am Roundabout Box Stock title, was claimed by Brian Baldwin of Denver, NC. Second and third went to Graham Hunt of Mooresville, NC and Dylan Osborn of Groveland, FL. Baldwin also claimed the title of Pro-Am Runabout GP.
Brad Hill won the Pro Freestyle division with 98 points. Fairhope, Alabama resident Devin Farthing won the Blaster GP division with 228 points and Jimmy Wilson won the Pro-Am Ski GP division with 202 points.
Nearly 200 athletes competed at the inaugural event.
