A proposed change to the ordinance governing parking on Ponte Vedra Boulevard is one step closer to implementation after unanimous approval Monday, April 5, by the Ponte Vedra Zoning and Adjustment Board.
If passed by the Board of County Commissioners, vehicles associated with regular periodic deliveries or services, such as lawn maintenance and repair services, will have to be parked in private driveways rather than on the street.
Variances may be awarded for properties with fewer than 150 feet of frontage if there is a hardship.
Truck tractors or truck tractor semi-trailers used to transport or deliver furniture, appliances, bulk materials, packages or similar items would be allowed to park on the boulevard for up to 10 minutes. However, if they must be parked there longer, they will be required to use flaggers and safety cones.
The amended ordinance would apply to the 6.69-mile segment of Ponte Vedra Boulevard between the Jacksonville Beach line and Mickler Road.
The proposal was first made by the Ponte Vedra Beach Municipal Service District Board of Trustees. It was prompted by an increase in traffic, homes and fulltime residents in that area.
In other business, the zoning board agreed to continue a request by Natural Life for the rezoning of one acre of land at 510 A1A N. The change, if approved, would allow commercial uses on the property that are not restricted to office and professional uses.
Natural Life is a retail business that specializes in women’s clothing, accessories and gifts. It wants to use a vacant building at the site for corporate and creative studio space and include a small café and coffee shop, as well as sale of merchandise.
The issue will be taken up at a future meeting.
The zoning board also elected John Patton as its new chair and Megan McKinley as vice chair. Two new members were approved: Richard D. Ensslen and Jane Elizabeth Rollinson. They will fill the seats being vacated this month by Thomas “Brad” Scott and H. Timothy Powell.
