Public meeting on Hastings Community Center and Library set for Thursday

St. Johns County will host a public meeting for the planned community center and public library in Hastings on Thursday, Aug. 31, at the W.E. Harris Community Center, 400 E. Harris St., Hastings.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. with a presentation from the HBM Architects design team allowing the public to see several potential designs being considered. After the presentation, attendees will be able to vote on their favorite design.

Staff from St. Johns County Public Works, St. Johns County Public Library System and the HBM Architects design team will be available to answer questions and share details about the project.

Information presented at the meeting will be made available at sjcfl.us/Hastings to view renderings and more.Those unable to attend the meeting are invited to visit the current Hastings Library, located at 6195 S. Main St., Hastings, to vote on their favorite design before 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8.

The planned library and community center would feature the following:

  • Full-sized library
  • Separate children’s collection room
  • Outdoor children’s reading garden
  • Study rooms
  • Large meeting and assembly rooms
  • Health and Human Services (HHS) offices
  • Drive-up book drop
  • Library staff offices

“I am excited for the Hastings community to come out and give their input on the appearance of this critical community cornerstone,” St. Johns County Public Library Director Debra Rhodes Gibson said. “The HBM Architects team and County staff have been working together to create concepts that will be compatible with the values and culture that represent this wonderful area.”
