The Rotary Club of Jacksonville-Oceanside has distributed more than 800 American flags across the Beaches community and beyond to commemorate Veterans Day on Saturday, Nov. 11.

The club’s American Flag Project organizes the distribution of 3-by-5-foot flags on five official holidays: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veteran’s Day. The flags are placed in areas such as community greenspaces, in front of private homes and at the entry points of local businesses.

“We’re pleased to demonstrate our support to our veterans and active-duty military personnel who have and continue to serve our country so selflessly through our American Flag Project,” said Rotary Club of Jacksonville-Oceanside President Ken Cahill. “Veteran’s Day is a significant occasion for us to remember the sacrifice made by so many, and we hope that the sight of American flags across the Beaches community will inspire a spirit of patriotism and awareness among our residents and visitors.”

Funds raised by the American Flag Project go towards the charitable efforts of Oceanside Rotary Charities Inc. The funds raised support numerous local causes such as scholarships, local teacher recognition, community parks and charities, including BEAM, Beaches Community Kitchen, Beaches Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army and USO, and to sponsor Interact Clubs at Fletcher High School, and Fletcher and Mayport middle schools.

If you are a beaches resident, you can order a yearlong subscription to the American Flag Project by going to oceansidejaxrotary.org and clicking on Flag Project. An American flag will be delivered and picked up for the five flag holidays. The cost is $50 per year.
