Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra assists local charities

Posted

The Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra members came together to drop off hundreds of items for local charities the club had been collecting for the past several months.

The club’s Community Service Committee provided a list of “At-Home Family Friendly Community Service Projects” for members to participate in weekly when schools closed. There was also a lesson plan for parents to follow to help their children learn about the nonprofits they were gathering items for. Members collected everything from toiletry items to luggage to books and more. The club also supported Beaches Rotaract international service project, Soles for Souls, by collecting shoes for their project. The drop-off event was held at the Vystar Credit Union parking lot located in Nocatee. It was the first time club members met in person since the pandemic began. Donations are being distributed to Port in the Storm; Starling at Nocatee Assisted Living; Ronald McDonald House; Ponte Vedra Library; Blessings in a Backpack; Homeless Coalition of St Johns County; Early Learning Coalition of St. Johns; Betty Griffin House; and St. Augustine Youth Services.

The club also supported two additional charities in recent weeks by giving gifts to children who are ill at Wolfson Children’s Hospital through their Christmas in July program. The Club also gave a donation in the amount of $1,550 to the St. Johns Ecumenical Ministries Food Pantry in July.
