Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra presents awards, passes gavel

The Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra had its End of the Year Awards and Passing of the Gavel Celebration Dinner on June 20 at Maggiano’s in the Town Center where outgoing 2017-2019 Charter President Kelly Altosino-Sastre of Rotary District 6970’s newest club recapped the club’s beginning and accomplishments over the past two years.

The club was chartered April 25, 2018. In addition to a slide show presentation of service projects and fellowship activities, club awards were distributed. The most prestigious award, The Rotarian of the Year, was given to St. Johns County Commissioner for District 4, Jeremiah Blocker, the club’s sergeant-at-arms. This award is for exemplary and distinguished service to the club.

MaryBeth Murray of Watson Realty, Nocatee office and the club’s international service chair was given the Spirit of Rotary Award for service not only within the club, but outside of the club to furthur the ideals of Rotary.

There were two President’s Awards given for being founding members of the club. The first went to Karen Everett, St. Johns Chamber economic development director and the club’s public image chair. Club Treasurer Darrell Clarkson, Tax Principal at Pivot CPAs also received a President’s Award.

Joshua Hull, vice president of Vystar Credit Union, Nocatee Branch and the club’s Rotary youth exchange counselor, was given the Youth Service Award.

Guest of honor, District Governor Jeanette Loftus, installed incoming 2019-2020 President Hilary Wilson and the board of directors. Altosino-Sastre was given the past president pin and will serve on the board as immediate past president. Last month, Altosino-Sastre won the Brent Williams Spirit of Rotary Award for Rotary District 6970 for long-time service in Rotary. She has been a Rotarian for 23 years and has served in many leadership capacities.

The club will kick off the new Rotary year from 7:15 to 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 9 at Treylor Park Restaurant next to Publix in Nocatee’s Town Center. For information, email pontevedrarotary@gmail.com.
