Scout creates library to inspire those in need

This past Thanksgiving, people served by Mission House in Jacksonville Beach found they had something new to be thankful for: a library of books created for them by a young man from Ponte Vedra Beach.

On the day before the holiday, Happy “Hap” Bell of Boy Scout Troop 277 delivered his Eagle Scout project to the facility. He had been working on it since he was 11 years old and said he hoped his library would inspire people to lift themselves out of a difficult space in their lives.

“For my Eagle Scout project I created a custom-built bookshelf and held a book drive as to craft a library for the nonprofit Mission House of Jacksonville Beach,” Hap explained. “The Mission at Jax Beach empowers individuals affected by homelessness in the Beaches area by providing food, clothing, medical care and support services with an avenue to self-sufficiency. This facility is the only day facility to help meet the needs of the homeless adults at the Beaches through compassion, faith and programs designed to provide assistance at an individual level. Basic needs are addressed through their meal, shower, case management and medical programs.”

Smiling members of the Mission House staff welcomed his book donations, bookshelf and monetary donation.
