The Ponte Vedra girls’ soccer team, back in action at home, earned wins against Bolles and archrival Nease this past week.

On Tuesday the girls blanked Bolles 1-0 on the lone second half goal by Marissa Reinker from a cross from Piper Dotsikas.

Then on Senior Night, Ponte Vedra bested the Nease Panthers 6-1. Reinker started the scoring for the Sharks at the 36-minute mark taking a pass from Abby Miller and drilling it past the surprised Nease keeper. But Nease wasn’t quite ready to pack it in and quickly tied matters a minute later when the Shark keeper, Emma Nelson in an attempt to collect a loose ball was caught out of position.

From that point on, Ponte Vedra maintained complete control of the game. Angeline Daly converted a pass from Miller to put the Sharks in front 2-1 with17 minutes left in the half.

A minute later, the red hot Reinker scored an unassisted goal to give the Sharks a 3-1 advantage. Then at the six-minute mark, Jordan Grune was in the right position to convert a cannon shot by Daly that the Panther keeper could not handle.

Second half goals by Dotsikas and Daly finished the scoring to the delight of the senior night crowd.

The game started with a special tribute to senior Claire McAuliffe, out for most of the season with a knee injury and still unable to play. The star mid-fielder had the honor of taking the first shot of the game before running to the sidelines in a joyous but tearful exit.

Prior to the game a ceremony honored the eight Shark seniors and their parents including Mary Stephens, McAuliffe, Reinker, Miller, Nelson, Camille Nichols, Grune and Callie Delany.
