The St. Johns County Commission drafted a resolution Tuesday to formally invite Elon Musk to build a Tesla factory here.
The county listed 21 reasons why St. Johns County would be the best location for a new plant after Musk expressed frustration with local California officials in getting his Fremont factory reopened as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Musk announced on Twitter he will explore moving out of California.
Musk already announced last week he planned to build a Terafactory in Austin, Texas.
The resolution said the new factory would be vital to the public’s health, safety and welfare.
Other benefits listed included: the Wall Street Journal, Robert Woods Johns Foundation and Money selecting the county as the best and healthiest to live in, as well as Business Insider ranking the school district as the best in Florida.
In addition to no state income taxes and favorable weather, the commission also touted “a number of incentives available to businesses which may wish to relocate to or expand operations in St. Johns County, including the County’s business incentive program, financing through the County’s Industrial Development Authority, and local support for state programs, such as Florida’s Qualified Target Industry program.”
Another bonus is the fact the PGA Tour, Ring Power and Advanced Disposal Services are located in St. Johns, the commission said.
The resolution ended with the county “respectfully and enthusiastically invited to St. Johns County, Florida, as a potential destination in the relocation of its headquarters or any future programs.”
