St. Johns County Commission OKs prioritized list of transportation projects

Posted

The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners voted 4-1 to submit a prioritized list of roadway and transportation projects to the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization. The projects would be considered for inclusion of state Department of Transportation’s work program in the next fiscal year.

Commissioner Krista Joseph voted no.

The list included 19 regional priorities. In addition, the county listed its 16 local priorities and several sidewalk proposals to fill in gaps.

The top five regional projects are:

  1. Widening State Road 16 from International Golf Parkway to the outlet mall entrance to four lanes. This had been at number 4 but was moved up to number 1 due to an amendment from Commissioner Henry Dean.
  2. A westward extension of State Road 312 to relieve congestion on U.S. 1. The extension would run from State Road 207 north to U.S. 1 north of the Northeast Florida Regional Airport.
  3. Widening St. Johns Parkway from State Road 9B to Silverleaf Parkway with intersection improvements and construction of a new four-lane segment from Silverleaf Parkway to S.R. 16.
  4. Intersection improvements along State Road A1A from Marsh Landing Parkway to Mickler Road to improve traffic flow.
  5. Widen S.R. A1A from Mickler Road to Sawgrass Drive West to four lanes.
