High school football was back in action on Friday, Sept. 5. The Creekside Knights were defeated at home by the Spruce Creek Hawks 27-13. Head coach Sean McIntyre has a young team with a lot to learn, but there is no denying the Knights’ potential.
Chace Dolan had a few big plays on the night, including an 18-yard kick return in the first quarter. Garren Blaylock also had a busy night, completing several first downs throughout the game. Davis Baldwin also made several positive plays throughout the game including a 27-yard return in the third quarter.
McIntyre continued to utilize his two-quarterback system against the Hawks, with sophomore Rozzi Sperry coming into the game in the second half. Sperry threw for 132 yards and one touchdown. He completed 71.4% of his passes. Jaxon Earle had the Knights’ only touchdown as well as 58 receiving yards on the night.
Creekside will be on the road this Friday, Sept. 12, against Bartram Trail.
Ponte Vedra Sharks
The Ponte Vedra Sharks defeated the Baker County Wildcats 35-10. Starting quarterback Cole Rosendahl had a standout performance as he threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns. He also became the first player in Sharks history to throw for more than 300 yards in three straight games. Jack Berquist also had a productive night with eight catches, 145 yards and three touchdowns.
The Sharks will be on the road again Friday, Sept. 12, as they take on the Beachside Barracudas at 7 p.m.
Beachside Barracudas
Beachside beat the Menedez Falcons 20-14, which marks three straight wins over the Falcons. The Barracudas now have a record of 2-1. They will look to get another win on Friday at home over the Sharks in their district showdown.
Nease Panthers
The Nease Panthers are now 3-0 after defeating the Lincoln Trojans 47-10. Sophomore quarterback Aiden Phifer is looking better each week, throwing for 245 yards and four touchdowns. Phifer’s top target in the game was Brayden Felder, who picked up 132 receiving yards.
The Panthers will be on the road against Fletcher at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 12.
